Paid Prenatal Leave Required in New York

New York has become the first state in the U.S. to mandate paid medical leave for pregnant employees attending prenatal appointments.

Effective January 1, 2025, private sector workers are entitled to at least 20 hours of paid leave for pregnancy-related medical care, including physical exams and fertility treatments.

San Francisco Department of Health Hires Weight Discrimination Consultant

Virgie Tovar, the author of You Have the Right to Remain Fat, has been hired as a “consultant on weight stigma and weight neutrality” by the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

Unitarian Universalist Association Supports Fat Liberation

In 2023, the UUA’s Board of Trustees adopted a statement supporting fat liberation and dismantling bias against fat people. Efforts in 2024 continues to highlight the lived experience of fat people, including workshops and demonstrations of visibility.

University of Maryland to offer ‘Intro to Fat Studies’ course

Professor Sydney Lewis will offer a Intro to Fat Studies: Fatness, Blackness, and Thier Intersections starting in Spring 2025.
